Funerary urn design
Emanuel Velebil – Umělecko-Průmyslový Závod pro Zpracování Kovů, Pilsen, Czech Republic, 1925
Hammered and galvanised copper, bronze.
H: 35 cm
UMP 10852
Acquired in 1925 from a competition held by the Pilsen
Chamber of Commerce
Second prize went to the urn entered by Emanuel Velebil (1875–1947), a metalsmith and goldsmith who had been working at his own metalworking arts and crafts manufactory in Pilsen since 1915. The hexagonal vessel evokes small Neoclassical sepulchral architecture and aspires for a modernist, simplified form. (jme)
